 Dear First Grade Parents,

It was a pleasure to have your child in my class this school year. I am glad the students have shown growth throughout the year in academic and social. I learned so many good things from them. Thank you for all the hard work you did this year. I wish you and your child the best of all the next year. Have a wonderful summer. Make sure you look at the reading list for the summer. Thanks! Here are the activities for the last two days of school.

June. 13- Half day

June 14- Half day (The students can wear their spirit shirt.) Also we will have our classroom awards at 12:00-12:30. If you would like to bring refreshments it is up to you.

June 15. Awards-  The students are to dress up for church.We will walk   together in the morning. Don’t bring backpacks to school. Students will be dismissed from the church.  

 

 Spelling Words:  No Spelling Words

Make sure your child practice the spelling words. Ask them to say the word and then spell it. Also the students will begin to put the words in sentences. Make sure your child put the words in a sentence. This is a good writing skill. The students will have to write their own sentences for the test.

Note: It is very important that your child read at home for 15 to 20 minutes everyday. This will improve their reading fluency. Also it is important that your child listen and pay attention in class.

Sentences: Dad put me back down on my feet. Now three little birds are in the tree. There were three green eggs. A bird came the next.

The students will be bringing different math sheets for homework  just for this week. The students need more practice on math problem solving. According to their ITBS scores they are low in this area.

Catholic Schools Week: January 31st at the 5:30 Mass ( One student is going to read his/her essay about their Catholic Education. I will pick the student.

Wednesday: Math Lesson 73B/Write the spelling words  deep, feed and feet in a complete sentence. Book report worksheet.

Thursday: Math Lesson 74B/Write the spelling words weed, sweep and cheek in a complete sentence.

Friday: Math Assessment/Spelling and Sentences Test

Note: It is important that your child read at home 15 min everyday. This will improve their reading fluency. Also I have seen improvement in Religion. I hope the test sheet is helping the students.

HATS FOR HAITI: This is a fundraiser for the victims of the earthquake in Haiti. Participate in “Hats for Haiti” on January 22, 2010. Pay $1.00 to wear a hat to school on that day.

Monday: Math Lesson 67A/Spelling Words Worksheet

Tuesday: Math Lesson 68A/Writing Activity ( What they like about Good Shepherd Catholic School? Make sure they have at least four to five sentences. They can draw pictures.

Wednesday: Math Lesson 69A/Book Report (Read an age level book and write about it. Study the religion test sheet for test on Thursday.

Friday: Spelling/Sentences Test

School Free Dress: On Thursday, January 14th the Student Council is sponsoring a Free Dress Fundraiser. The students have to bring $1.00 and wear their warmest winter outfits such as scarves, gloves, hats, sweaters, etc.

Teacher Message

I would like to thank all the first grade parents for been such a supportive group. Also thanks to my room parents for the great  job they are doing. Once again is a pleasure to teach your child. I wish all my students and their family a wonderful Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Keep Alexander’s dad in your prayers. God bless all of you.

Class News

The students are doing a great job learning their Christmas song and hand motions as well. The students will be singing along with the second grade class. They are going to look very nice. In regards to the dress code for the Christmas program; the boys have to wear red tops and black pants. The girls have to wear a red dress or pants with a red top.
